To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden,
where doing nothing was not boring-- it was peace." ~ Milan Kundera
Who We Are
We are a 501(c)3 (tax deductible) animal rescue who is dedicated to ending the senseless killing of animals who have been discarded by society. We pull our furry ones from "Death Row" at local shelters, accept owner surrenders to prevent the animal from going to the shelters and bring home those who were tossed out to fend for themselves. All of these dogs remain safe at our farm until we find their forever homes!
Adopting a friend
All of our animals, prior to going to their forever homes, will be spay/neutered, heartworm tested, fecal test, dewormed, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, safer tested, and on a heartworm preventative and flea/tic preventative.
Once you've found your new furry family member, we require an adoption application be completed and a home visit to ensure our girls/boys are going to the right environment for their individual personalities. If all goes well with these two items then an adoption contract between yourself and our facility will be completed and your new family member goes home with you.
Come Visit Us!
We require that you email ahead and schedule a time to visit all of our kids. We are available for appointments every day and are willing to work around your schedule to assist you in meeting them. Be sure when visiting that you do not wear good clothes. Alot of our kids get to run free inside the fenced area during the day and they get excited when visitors come.
Please understand that this rescue is a one woman mission with a handful of faithful volunteers. So be patient and diligent. When you find someone you are interested in visiting I cannot stress enough EMAIL. One of my volunteers checks the emails faithfully and responds to work with you on setting up visiting times, answer questions etc. Phone messages sometimes do not get returned for a day or two and these furry kids aren't put on hold. Our purpose is to get them out of harms way and into loving forever homes asap. There are always always always so many more hurting and in need that we can help by having room available.
Our adoption fees cover just what it cost to get the animal spay/neutered, heartworm tested, fecal test, vaccinated, microchipped and started on their heartworm preventative and flea/tic/mosquito preventative. Everything else comes out of our pocket so you can see why donations are so very very important to us.
As always monetary donations are never turned away :-) You may make a tax-deductible cash donation directly to the shelter using PayPal by clicking on the "Donate" button below.
Or if you would prefer you can always send a check or money order directly to the shelter. Please make check or money order payable to "Our Lil Bit of Heaven". All donations are tax-deductible.

SUGGESTION
Give a big guy/gal a chance!! Or an older puppy for that matter. It seems that folks think the older pups will be harder to train etc. This just simply is not true. Our pups are so well mannered, obedient and loving they are sponges waiting to absorb the best.
The websites online that allow the public to view the animals that are in need of forever homes are fantastic tools. The pictures and bios let you get an interest in one or two BUT, what we suggest here at Our Lil Bit of Heaven is that when you see a baby that you think you're interested in at ours or any rescue, go visit but, visit with ALL of the ones that are available. The larger dogs, the older dogs, you cannot get a glimpse of their personalities through a picture. Meet them, spend some time with them. You may just be suprised at who grabs your heart strings.

UPDATES FROM ADOPTERS
Joyce, It's been a year, so I thought you might like to know how Piper
is doing. She is GREAT! She is up to 66 pounds though the vet thinks
maybe 60 pounds would be a better weight for her. She eats her food and if Ti and Maggie leave a little something in their bowl, she will slide
over and have that too. She went on her first road trip with just me
and all three dogs. We went to AR to visit family and she had a great
time and behaved great in the car. My mom and dad thought maybe I might forget to take her home, but that didn't happen. My dad is in a
wheelchair and she would stand there forever and put her head in his lap so that he could pet her. She's pretty irresistible! They obviously
thought she was the greatest thing ever. She still goes to the groomer
once a month and she says that she collapses on the table in a heap for her tummy rubs. She just got her teeth cleaned and her yearly check up, and everything was perfect. She is a love bug, and thinks she is still
a lap dog. She will crawl up on the couch like she weighs 10 pounds and land right on my knees for her petting. She is a perfect fit in our
family! Sheryl and Chris
We adopted Sammy (kept the name) a large black lab Golden retriever mix. He has adjusted quite well to our home, and now simply loves to take car rides. Getting into a car was a task the first few times we tried it, but with several quick rides to the river and fields to run and play, he quickly learned to love jumping in the truck. He has an insatiable desire to be touched and loved on, and everybody that meets him loves him to death. He just went to the Vet and received a clean bill of health, he has bonded well to the family and our other lab mix Molly. With some coaxing he has learned to swim and now loves to play in the lakes. He is very obedient, and great on a leash after a few quick lessons from Julie and I. He is now part of our family. I will attach some pics to refresh your memories of him. His temperament is all golden retriever!!

Hi Joyce,
Fred Astaire and Ginger have been with me now over a year. We are quite settled into a routine. They even let me know if I’m staying up after normal bed time! Ginger passed obedience training in third place out of something like 16. She has me very well-trained! It came in handy recently when we were walking and charged by two big dogs. She managed to wiggle out of her collar and started running off. When I got up from the ground, I called her and she stopped!! (And they say Beagles are too stubborn!- Ha!) She is also keeping the spring bulbs blooming with her persistent rabbit chasing. Before they came, the rabbits used my back yard for their buffet.
Fred is also doing well. It took him a little longer to re-housetrain, but I am so glad I hung in there. He’s finally got me trained to let him out – and he’s come out of his shyness enough to bark at the door when he thinks it should open. Boys usually do take longer to potty train, though. Sometimes he goes out just so he can return for a treat. He thinks I don’t know! He loves to steal socks, so I have to do laundry on the sly so that he doesn’t hide them in his tummy. He had his first (that I’m aware of) epileptic seizure about a week ago. I hope it’s his last. The vet didn’t find anything wrong with him, so we’re watching him. But I am glad he has a home where he can have individualized attention. He is a mama's boy - would rather be with me inside than chasing rabbits!
I know it was very hard for me to commit to a dog (and I got two!) because I was so heartbroken when my former Patches got old and a brain tumor deemed it necessary for us to part. For those people (me) reluctant to get another dog for fear of the heartbreak that will come eventually, please keep in mind that while we have our friends, we must think of the good we do for them and the good they do for us. I cannot now imagine life without them.
I feel so terrible for the dogs that don’t have homes. I urge anyone to go visit a shelter, play with the little ones and see who tugs at their heartstrings. And then, go home and try to imagine that little one in a shelter or rescue day in and day out, without a family to call his own. Now, I know you (Joyce) care for each and every baby out there, but I hope they can all some day find a home like Fred and Ginger, and all the other happy tails you have wagging in their forever abodes. Thank you for making the trip to Missouri to rescue Fred and Ginger from the terrible fate they would have had at the shelter that was told to euthanize them!! And thank you for caring for the many that you do while they are waiting for their forever families to come for them!
Terri & Fred & Ginger
We did rename Posey. She now goes by Ziggy. She zigzags all over our backyard when she is out playing so the name fits her well. Plus, for some reason, our kids were having a rough time pronouncing Posey.
She is doing very well and is adjusting quickly. She is very gentle and loving and is excellent with the kids. She is doing a great job at housetraining. She enjoys the backyard a lot and loves just hanging out with us. She's still not big on car rides, but fortunately, we don't have to take her on too many anyway. As soon as I get our pictures uploaded on our computer I will send you some pictures of her at her new home!
